This paper examines, in brief, the necessity of strengthening collaboration between industry and universities as one of the most important drivers of a country’s economic development. It discusses the roles and responsibilities of these two fundamental institutions, as well as the barriers that hinder the establishment of a logical and effective relationship between them.

It must be recognized that these challenges constitute part of the broader obstacles to national development. They cannot be overcome through abstract perspectives or the absence of appropriate development planning. Despite existing limitations, requirements, and challenges, as well as the ethical responsibilities of both industry and academic leaders toward society, it should be acknowledged that expanding this relationship is beneficial for both sectors.

Consequently, the internal and economic needs of these organizations will inevitably encourage them to move toward closer and more spontaneous collaboration. Based on the mutual needs of industry and universities, this paper proposes a model for strengthening and improving industry–university collaboration.
