The Heat Treatment Laboratory is specialized in alloy research, with particular emphasis on the chemical and physical metallurgy of materials and thermal processing routes. The laboratory supports both fundamental research and applied studies aimed at optimizing material performance through controlled heat treatment cycles.

These capabilities allow the design and execution of optimized thermal processes that lead to enhanced strength, hardness, toughness, and overall performance.

Heat Treatment Processes

Annealing

Softens the material, relieves internal stresses, and improves ductility and machinability.

Normalizing

Refines the grain structure and enhances mechanical properties and uniformity.

Hardening (Quenching)

 Rapid cooling to increase hardness, strength, and wear resistance.

Tempering

Reduces brittleness after hardening while improving toughness and stability.

Stress Relief

Removes residual stresses without significantly changing mechanical properties.

Controlled Atmosphere Treatment

 Prevents oxidation and decarburization during heating using inert gas protection.

Furnaces

  • Three electric furnaces with controlled inert gas atmosphere, up to 1200°C max, 60 L capacity each
  • One precision tube furnace (1.5-inch diameter) with a maximum operating temperature of 1200 °C
