Every organization and institution is established in response to the necessities and demands of the social developments of its time. Through continuous interaction with the society from which it emerges, it grows, evolves, and flourishes. The higher education system is no exception. By recognizing its position and mission, addressing national needs, and keeping pace with developments in the global educational landscape, it can achieve continuous improvement and advancement.

According to Iran’s Twenty-Year Vision Document, the country is expected to attain the leading position in science and technology, as well as the highest economic ranking, in the Southwest Asia region. The primary objective of the nation’s policymakers and decision-makers should therefore be to achieve this vision. Such a goal cannot be realized without sustained material and intellectual investment, the development of scientific infrastructure, and a fundamental transformation of the country’s higher education system.

The Engineering Sciences Group of the Academy of Sciences of the Islamic Republic of Iran, together with other institutions involved in formulating the country’s higher education policies, remains committed to its longstanding mission of advancing science and knowledge. It considers strengthening the higher education system essential for enhancing the nation’s scientific and technological capabilities.

Today, the world is moving toward a model in which researchers from diverse—and sometimes distinctly different—disciplines come together out of necessity to exchange ideas and perspectives in order to gain a deeper understanding of scientific challenges. As a result, numerous interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary fields have emerged to address complex problems that require comprehensive, multidimensional knowledge and integrated approaches.

In this context, the rapid progress of various engineering disciplines in expanding the frontiers of technology, together with the continuous efforts of domestic engineers to keep pace with the latest global scientific and technological achievements, highlights the vital role of engineers and engineering sciences in promoting the comprehensive development and sustainable advancement of the nation.
