On-Site Industrial Services
Our on-site industrial services deliver expert technical support, inspection, testing, and problem-solving solutions to improve operational efficiency, safety, and reliability.
On-site metallurgy services play a vital role in verifying the safety, integrity, and long-term reliability of industrial structures and equipment that are too large, fixed, or impractical to be evaluated in a laboratory environment. In many cases, on-site metallurgical investigation is also essential for material identification in aging installations, supporting effective maintenance strategies and repair decisions.
Our multidisciplinary team of experienced engineers and technicians is equipped with advanced portable instrumentation to deliver comprehensive on-site metallurgy services. We apply our Total Quality Assurance approach across a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, power generation, rail, aerospace, bridge structures, and large-scale fabrications that cannot be transported to a laboratory for testing.
Our on-site metallurgy capabilities include:
- In-situ metallography
- Metallographic replication
- Ferrite content measurement (Ferritescope)
Ferrite Content Measurement
The Ferrous (Ferrite) Content Portability Test is a non-destructive, portable measurement method used to determine the ferrite content in austenitic and duplex stainless steels, weld metals, and corrosion-resistant alloys. The test is commonly performed using a portable magnetic instrument (Ferritescope) based on magnetic induction principles.
Ferrite content is measured by exploiting the magnetic permeability difference between ferrite (magnetic) and austenite (non-magnetic) phases. When the probe is placed on the material surface, the instrument generates a magnetic field and detects the response, which is proportional to the ferrite content. Results are typically reported as:
- Ferrite Number (FN)
- Or vol.% ferrite (depending on calibration)
Portable XRF
On-site Positive Material Identification (PMI) using portable X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyzers for rapid and non-destructive identification of alloy grades and elemental composition of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including stainless steels, carbon steels, aluminum, copper, nickel, titanium, and cobalt alloys, providing fast and reliable screening in compliance with international standards, minimizing material mix-up, and delivering immediate results directly at site without the need for sample preparation, making it ideal for inspection, sorting, and quality control in oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, marine, and construction industries.
Chemical Composition Analysis Optical Emission Spectrometry (PMI – OES)
On-site Positive Material Identification (PMI) using Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES) for accurate and reliable determination of the chemical composition of ferrous alloys, aluminum, copper, nickel, tin, titanium, and cobalt alloys, enabling rapid alloy grade verification in accordance with international standards (ASTM, ASME, API), minimizing the risk of material mix-up, and providing traceable inspection results without the need for sample cutting or material transfer, suitable for oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, marine, and construction industries.
Portable Hardness
Portable Hardness Testing using non-destructive portable hardness testers for accurate measurement of material hardness on in-service components, enabling on-site evaluation of mechanical properties without damaging the material, supporting quality control, material verification, and fitness-for-service assessments, and providing fast and reliable results for a wide range of metallic materials in oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, and industrial applications.
Coating Thickness Measurement
Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UT) using portable non-destructive gauges for accurate determination of coating and paint thickness on metallic substrates, enabling on-site inspection of protective coatings without surface damage, ensuring compliance with project specifications and international standards, supporting quality control and corrosion protection programs, and providing fast and reliable results for in-service equipment in oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, marine, and industrial applications.
