Project Summary

Professor Parviz Davami was born on June 1, 1941, in Tehran, Iran. He graduated with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Tehran Higher Industrial Institute (now Iran University of Science and Technology) in 1965. In 1972, he earned his Ph.D. from University of Leeds, United Kingdom. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of materials engineering and metallurgy in Iran.

After completing his studies abroad, Professor Davami returned to Iran and joined the faculty of Sharif University of Technology, where he devoted himself to teaching and research. Alongside his academic and administrative responsibilities, he pursued extensive research in solidification and casting processes, as well as the simulation of solidification and casting, producing numerous influential publications in these fields.

Driven by his personal commitment to advancing applied research, Professor Davami gradually brought together a group of distinguished scholars and researchers. In 1982, despite significant challenges—including limited financial resources, inadequate laboratory facilities, a shortage of experienced personnel, and an underdeveloped environment for knowledge-based enterprises—he founded the Razi Metallurgical Research Center after obtaining the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Industries. This marked the beginning of a highly productive era in the theoretical and practical development of metallurgy and materials engineering in Iran.

After three decades of sustained effort, the center had grown to employ approximately 200 staff members by 2012 and had achieved notable financial success while continuing to provide valuable scientific and industrial services. The center remains active and influential today.

Building upon this experience, Professor Davami established the Razi Foundation for Applied Sciences in 2013. The foundation includes a comprehensive range of advanced laboratories and facilities, such as metallography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), chemical analysis, non-destructive testing (NDT), mechanical testing, polymer analysis, corrosion testing, optical emission spectroscopy (Quantometry), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), workshops for preparing metallic and non-metallic specimens, facilities for industrial component testing, as well as a specialized library, information center, and supporting software infrastructure.

Among Professor Davami’s notable honors and awards are:

• Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Industries for contributions to industrial research (1989).
• Outstanding Researcher Award from Sharif University of Technology (1990).
• Winner of the international QIT Design Award and recipient of the Gold Medal from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
• Second Prize for Innovation at the Third International Khwarizmi Festival (1989).
• Second Prize in Applied Research at the Eleventh International Khwarizmi Festival (1997).
• Selected by the Academy of Sciences of the Islamic Republic of Iran and awarded the First-Class Order of Knowledge (2007).
• Recipient of the First-Class Order of Knowledge from the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran (2011).

Professor Parviz Davami is a distinguished figure in the realm of science and technology, whose lifelong dedication has profoundly advanced knowledge, innovation, and industrial development in Iran.

His scholarly contributions include the publication of more than 300 papers in Persian and English in reputable journals and at national and international conferences. He has also authored numerous specialized textbooks and reference works in the fields of materials science and metallurgical engineering.
